Recently, my partner and I finally found a piece of land that resonates with our quest after several years of searching. If you want to know more about this adventure, I invite you to read the article that traces our journey to this unique place. In this article, I wish to share our first moments on this land, where our hearts resonated with the gentle melody of the surrounding nature. Through the trees and the whispers of the wind, we discovered a sacred place, a sanctuary to listen to, where the earth and its inhabitants, visible and invisible, could coexist in harmony. Inspired by the wise teachings of the Hopi, our quest is not limited to material construction. It’s a spiritual adventure, a journey to create a place where humans, animals, plants, and spirits meet in sacred balance.

Rediscovering Hopi principles to build in harmony with nature
The wise Hopis, guardians of the earth, teach us that every element of nature is a thread in the same web. They remind us that the earth is a living entity, where every tree, every animal, every stone is connected and plays a role in the cosmic harmony. On this land, we felt the web of interconnectedness between the visible and the invisible. The Hopi taught me to ask permission before acting, to listen to the earth, and to feel the invisible vibrations dancing around us.
Building in harmony means honoring this land. The trees are not just resources to exploit; they are ancestors who watch over, anchor, heal, and teach. Guided by these values, we aspire to create a place for healing, teachings, and ceremonies, while respecting the soul of this place. It is not simply a physical space, but a spiritual sanctuary, a home for the heart and spirit.
A sanctuary for nature spirits and animals
This land is much more than just a piece of earth; it’s a shared space with wild animals and nature spirits. We’ve often come across tracks of Wild Boars, Mouflons, and Deer, silent witnesses of this dense forest. According to the wise Hopi, every creature carries wisdom, a sacred role in the balance of the world. By settling here, we take care to coexist with them, to respect their presence. Grandmother Medicine Song recently told me, “You must be aware that you are settling in the Boars' living room.”

A sacred spring and cohabitation with wild boars
On this land, there is a particularly mystical place: a spring that seeps through the ground into a beautiful stone basin. It’s a mysterious spot because you can’t see where the water comes from, but it’s there, inexhaustible. From the moment we arrived, we knew our first mission would be to honor this spring, to restore its clarity, its strength, and to preserve the sacred balance it represents.
This basin is the kingdom of the Wild Boars, invisible masters who bathe there, playing, sometimes leaving their marks. They damaged a corner of the wall, allowing water to escape. We wanted to purify this space without disturbing the natural harmony, cleaning the traces while respecting the delicate balance between man and nature.
With patience, my partner extracted over 8 cubic meters of earth. Each shovel brought us closer to the hidden spring. Finally, we discovered that the water flowed from three distinct points, a moment filled with gratitude and respect. Before approaching this sacred water, we took care to purify ourselves with sage, offering tobacco and food to the spirit of the spring.
A stone altar now rests at the edge of the basin, a place for offerings where we give tobacco and food in thanks for the life it sustains. One question remains: how do we ensure that the boars don’t come back to disturb this space? This challenge of "building in harmony with nature" will be addressed in a future article, where we will explore how to live with these beings who share our territory, not by imposing our will, but by finding a respectful and sustainable solution.
(To be continued...)
Passing on to future generations: a family and collective project
This project goes beyond merely constructing a living space or place for ceremonies. It embodies the idea of transmission, a wisdom to be shared with future generations. By creating this space, we hope to leave a spiritual legacy, a beacon for our family and for all those who come here, seeking to reconnect with nature and themselves.
The Hopi wise men teach that we are temporary stewards of the earth, and that our duty is to preserve it for those who come after us. This land will be a place of healing, teaching, and sharing, a refuge where the community can learn, celebrate the cycles of nature, and rediscover the sacred connection we have forgotten. Together, with those who share this vision, we will build a sanctuary that respects the environment and all living beings.

An invitation to reflect
As stewards of the earth, we carry a sacred responsibility: to build without destroying, to create while honoring what existed before us. We invite you to reflect on your own way of living in harmony with nature. How, on our scale, can we create spaces that respect the living, both visible and invisible? This path, although full of challenges, is essential to restore balance between man and earth.
If this story and these reflections have touched you, and you would like to learn more about the Hopi spiritual path, I invite you to discover the Terre de Reliance project, a sacred space in creation, dedicated to healing, where nature and ancient teachings will be our guides. You can learn more by visiting the dedicated project page.
You can also explore the Hopi teachings page and book your drum healing session, to connect more deeply with the essence of the earth and ancestral traditions. Don't forget to check out the workshops I lead on the Yoga With You website here. Join our community to share and journey together towards a life filled with spirituality, connection to oneself, and nature.
May this autumn season be an open door for you to transformation and the discovery of new inner perspectives.
