Hopi Language: The Power of Words, Healing, and Intention

Writer's picture: LorraineLorraine

Lately, a thought has been crossing my mind. As someone accustomed to singing in the Shipibo language, the language of my apprenticeship, I wonder about starting to sing in the Hopi language. The reason behind this contemplation is simple: behind each word lies an energetic source, a force dating back to the very creation of the word. Today, as I journey further with the Hopis and familiarize myself with their concepts to reinforce their energy, I feel the need to call upon them in their language.

However, I struggle to know how to pronounce Hopi. This is a true shot in the dark: if anyone knows where I can hear chants in the Hopi language or find recordings with written words to learn pronunciation, it would greatly help me.

This contemplation leads me to talk to you about the energetic importance of words, what they contain, and what they are connected to.

Illustration of divine essence: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by it, and without it nothing was made that was made. This artwork, infused with Native American iconography, celebrates creation in all its splendor, with vibrant motifs of nature such as the couple, the eagle, the moon, and much more.

Hopi Language: The Energy of Words

Every spoken word resonates with an energetic vibration that permeates our environment and our state of mind. Speaking with love, compassion, and respect generates positive energy, thereby elevating our vibrational frequency. Conversely, words laden with negativity have the power to wound and diminish our vital energy. We have all experienced how negative thoughts about ourselves or a glance tainted with anger can alter our mood and mental well-being. In a professional or family setting where negative remarks are common, our self-esteem can suffer, leading us to adopt a depreciative perception of ourselves.

Contemporary scientists are beginning to grasp the relevance of this ancient wisdom. Studies have shed light on the influence of words on our physical and mental health. For example, I had the opportunity to visit the premises of Masaru Emoto and discover the fascinating results of his work on water crystals. These reveal that positive words such as "love" or "harmony" can generate beautifully ordered and symmetrical crystalline structures, while negative words produce chaotic and discordant forms.

Hopi Language: Healing through Words

In Hopi traditions, chants and prayers are used as means of healing. Sacred words, repeated with intention, can restore balance and harmony. Hopi healing chants are sung prayers that invoke the aid of spirits and natural forces. These chants are passed down from generation to generation, with each word carefully chosen for its vibration and effect.

We can integrate this practice into our daily lives by being conscious of the words we use. Speaking with kindness, expressing gratitude, and offering encouragement can create a healing environment not only for ourselves but also for those around us.

The word for "heart" in Hopi is "unangwa," and the word for "love" is still unknown. However, you can experiment by using the word "…". A practice that can connect you to the healing energy of the Hopis is as follows: inhale while pronouncing "..." visualizing the Creator's breath entering through your third eye chakra, then exhale while pronouncing "unangwa" while visualizing this breath going towards your heart. By practicing this, you connect to the healing energy of the Hopi lineage's medicine.

This drawing illustrates, in Native American iconography, the breath of the creator giving birth to the world.

Hopi Language: The Power of Intention

The Hopis teach that the intention behind our words is as important as the words themselves. A word spoken with a pure and loving intention will have a much more powerful impact than a word spoken without reflection. Intention gives direction and strength to our words, making them more effective in their ability to influence and heal.

To practice this wisdom, it is essential to cultivate a clear and positive intention. Before speaking, take a moment to consider the energy you want to convey. Whether in a daily conversation, a prayer, or a personal statement, pure intention magnifies the power of our words.

Elevating our words: the power of the Hopi language

Words are sacred tools in Hopi wisdom, capable of healing and transforming. By becoming aware of their power and using our words with intention and respect, we can create a more harmonious and fulfilling life. By integrating this ancestral wisdom into our daily lives, we contribute to our own well-being and that of our community.

Always remember that every word counts. Let your words be bearers of light, healing, and peace.
