Building in harmony with nature: respect and coexistence with wild boars

Some time ago, I shared the story of a coexistence to be found, a balance to be restored between humans and animals on the land my partner and I purchased. A place where the earth remembers the footsteps of those who walked it before us. You can read the article about it.
Protecting the spring from wild boar incursions seemed necessary, but we never wanted to do it in opposition to them. We sought a dialogue, a way to inhabit this place together, without conflict or conquest, in respect for the forces that animate it.

When we set out to protect the spring, we knew the task would be challenging. These powerful animals are the guardians of their territory, bearers of ancient knowledge, guided by an instinct that does not falter. They know the land better than we do, following its invisible currents and slightest changes. Yet today, no more traces appear in the basin. The footprints we now find mark the surroundings but never the sacred enclosure of the water. As if, in this silent dialogue, an agreement had been reached.
Restoring the natural flow of water
We first chose to open rather than enclose. The water was no longer to be contained but to regain its natural flow. We let the water escape from the basin, returning it to nature, accepting that it would follow its own path.
Protections inspired by tradition
Then, we placed four posts around the basin, each adorned with camphor pastilles, a scent that wild boars instinctively avoid. Finally, we set up invisible protections, inherited from the Hopi tradition, to preserve the balance of the place.
A few minutes after I had placed these protections and burned sage, my partner and I heard a rustling in the ferns. A wild boar was there, hidden in the shadows, silently observing us, as if assessing what we had just done. This moment resonated with me as a sign: a presence, an intelligence at work in this place. Since then, I often have the strange feeling of being watched when near the spring. As if an invisible clan leader were watching over this space, evaluating our presence and intentions. These gestures were enough. Where confrontation might have seemed inevitable, another path opened: that of mutual respect.
The medicine of the wild boar: a spiritual force
This success is all the more significant because the wild boar, in many traditions, is a symbol of strength and resilience.
A power animal in different cultures
In Indo-European myths, it embodies spiritual authority, capable of unearthing hidden truths, much like its search for deep roots. In Asia, it is an avatar of Vishnu, bringing the Earth back to the surface of the waters. Among Native Americans, though not native to the continent, it is recognized for its warrior medicine: a being who, above all, must conquer himself, face his own weaknesses, and embody truth with integrity.
Alliance with the wild boar
When we chose not to fight the wild boar but to welcome it, a door opened to another kind of knowledge. We understood that this fierce being was not an enemy but a guide, an ancient spirit carrying powerful medicine. So, we called upon it, no longer as an intruder, but as an ally.
Its medicine teaches us tenacity, reminding us not to give up in the face of obstacles. In Japanese tradition, it is a protector against negative energies and a symbol of bravery. Its totemic energy encourages us to embrace our own power and not retreat before challenges. It reminds us of the importance of resilience, the ability to bounce back after failures, and to persevere in adversity.
Through it, we learn that protecting a place does not mean excluding but integrating its natural forces and guardians. It becomes a silent guide, a presence watching over and supporting those who inhabit this land. In moments of doubt, when we need courage, its medicine whispers perseverance and inner strength.
The wild boar teaches us to draw from our deep resources, not to falter in the face of obstacles on our path. It shows us the raw power of determination. Through its presence, it teaches us to root ourselves in our own strength, to feel the solidity of our steps and the momentum of our fighting spirit. It runs through the woods, elusive and free, offering us the secret of invisibility when it comes to escaping the gazes that seek to limit us.

But the wild boar is also the one who turns the soil, who unearths what lies dormant beneath the surface. It is a sower of abundance and a guardian of fertility. Those who walk with it learn loyalty, agility, and swift action. Its spirit roars within us when the time comes to face life with courage, with a strength that does not retreat and understands the value of each battle fought.
Thus, we are weaving an alliance with it. It takes time, and we hope to be accepted by the wild boar clan. Perhaps they will become an energetic protection for this place, helping us with their medicine. Under their untamed gaze, we move forward with humility, hoping that this coexistence will transform into a true alliance.
Building in harmony with nature: a lesson in coexistence
In this newfound coexistence with the wild boars, a lesson emerges. We did not seek to dominate them or drive them away by force. We listened to nature, understood their needs, and found a solution that respects both their place and ours.
Learning from the medicine of the wild boar
In doing so, we learned from their medicine: knowing how to forge one's own path with courage, without compromise, but always in harmony with what surrounds us.
For building is not about imposing. Building in harmony with nature means understanding that every land first belongs to the earth itself and that our role is to learn to coexist with wisdom.
