Who is Lorraine Glatigny?
Journey of Lorraine Glatigny
Lorraine Glatigny was an actress, theater professor, and documentary filmmaker. She studied theatrical anthropology and anthropological documentary. In 2008, her life led her to meet shamans in the Peruvian Amazon rainforest, where she discovered the traditional medicine of the Shipibo-Conibo ethnic groups, who heal with plants and by singing 'Ikaros,' sacred songs. This journey marked a turning point in her life.
In 2010, Lorraine dedicated a year to what Amazonian shamans call a traditional learning diet. She was given a Western plant, which allowed her to reconnect with the medicinal plants of Europe and thus create a bridge between Amazonian medicine and the lost knowledge of our European grandmothers. She undertook several diets and multiple long stays in the Amazon rainforest to learn from Panshin Beka (Olivia Arevalo) and Justina, female shamans.
Beyond borders: Shamanic explorations and initiatory encounters
Lorraine spent several months with different Filipino traditional healers and went to meet the Q'eros, the last descendants of the Incas in the Peruvian Andes. She lived with the Tao't Batu (people of the rock) in the Philippines, one of the rare tribes isolated from the rest of the country.
She filmed Iboga rituals in Gabon, the last fishing shamans in the Philippines, and Shinto monks with their water ritual in Japan.
In 2019, Lorraine followed her first Hopi teachings with Satya, of whom she is the apprentice, and who created the Hopi community in Holland. In 2020, she began to follow the teachings of Grandmother Medicine Song.
